On the 25th of March 2007, a new organization was created to bring together young Jews from all over Poland. In accordance with a decision made by the Founding Assembly, the organization was named ZOOM – The Polish Jewish Youth Organization. The young Jews of Poland, especially after the break-up of PUSZ – The Polish Union of Jewish Students, saw the need to establish a new organization uniting young Polish Jews, as previous undertakings of this kind had not fully met the needs of the community.
We are particularly pleased to see that, along with the “seasoned” activists, many new people who were previously only loosely connected to the broadly defined Jewish community have joined.
ZOOM has set itself the goals of: joining together young Jews by means of organizing seminars, outings and meetings, and by spreading knowledge of Jewish history and tradition.
On 13 of April 2008 first ZOOM general asembly was hold. Agnieszka Niemczyk has been named Chairman, Jakub Kobielski Secretary and Remigiusz Sosnowski Treasurer. An Oversight Commission has also been formed, comprising Jakub Herczyński, Michał Ziątek and Krzysztof Izdebski. The organization is open to cooperation with all Jewish organizations in Poland, as well as with other organizations in Poland and abroad, and hopes that such cooperation will result in the growth of an ever-stronger Jewish community in Poland.
We are open to all forms of cooperation. We are also eager to share our thoughts and ideas. We can be reached by e-mail: biuro@zoom.edu.pl and by phone: (00-48) 503-506-673.
Respectfully,
Jan Śpiewak
former ZOOM Chairman
